The
ceremony of making a "gold weld" signifying the completion of the pipeline on the Polish section of the gas transit system took place on September 23, 1999 in the community of Che³sty on the river Narew near Ostrów Mazowiecka (the Mazowsze provice).
The completion of the first line of the transit gas pipeline on Polish territory and the first gas compressor and metering station
in Kondratki has made it possible to commence the transport of gas from Russia to Western Europe through the Polish section as part of a test run of sub-systems and plant.
Currently, the Polish line carries some 50 million cubic metres of gas per day, of which some 41.5 million cubic metres is transported to Germany and some 8.5 million cubic metres is retained in Poland.
