The SCADA system is a
comprehensive data link and control systems management tool
for the Polish section of the transit gas pipeline and has been supplied by
Cegelec Sp. z o.o.
The SCADA system provides for the continuous monitoring of operating parameters of the pipeline and compressor stations. It triggers instant alerts in emergency situations (exceeded limits requested by the operator, failure, immediate safety threat related to the plant and machinery etc.). The system provides real time device status information and offers visualisation of operating parameters. It supports data processing, status reporting, data base creation and archiving and data transmission. In addition, it has a simulation functionality which supports static and dynamic modelling aiming at the optimisation of gas transport. Finally, it is a remote control tool for plant and machinery alongside the pipeline (valve stations, turbocompressor units etc.).
SCADA has a hierarchical structure. At the top of the hierarchy is the Yamal-Europe Transit Gas Pipeline System Central Control Unit, which requests current and projects future volumes of gas in the system and communicates this information to the level of the Main National System Control Unit, which controls the Polish section of the transit pipeline. Further down the hierarchy are the compressor stations or local operators. At the very bottom of the SCADA structure is the Facility Control System (controls plant, machinery and installations equipped with control systems connected by LAN).
Currently, the existing fibre-optic network provides for the transmission of gas pressure and temperature data on the Włocławek-Górzyca section and for the remote control of valve fittings on the same section. In addition, the transmission of gas volume data and other key parameters is enabled from the compressor and metering station in Kondratki and from the compressor station in Włocławek.
